Standard E18: The facility has established procedure for post-natal Care
The standard pertains to provision of Post-partum Care to the mothers after delivery.
HWC (SC) - Type B, shall be assessed for compliance to established procedures and standard protocols for management of mother and baby during post-partum period.
Measurable Elements
ME E18.1: The facility ensures mandatory stay and primary post-partum monitoring of mother and newborn for at least 48 hours following facility delivery.
(Focuses on tracking maternal vitals, lochia/bleeding, involution of uterus, voiding, neonatal vitals, thermal care, and early exclusive breastfeeding).
ME E18.2: The facility ensures early identification and management/referral of maternal and neonatal post-partum complications.
(Focuses on detecting postpartum hemorrhage, puerperal sepsis, post-partum hypertension/eclampsia, mastitis/breast abscess, neonatal jaundice, and sepsis).
ME E18.3: The facility ensures provision of Home-Based Postnatal Care (HBPNC) and follow-up visits through ASHAs and MPWs as per national schedules.
(Focuses on line-listing postpartum mothers, completing 6 Home Visits for institutional deliveries (or 7 for home deliveries), checking MCP card filling, and tracking mother and baby health parameters).
ME E18.4: The facility provides counseling on post-partum nutrition, hygiene, exclusive breastfeeding, danger signs, and post-partum family planning (PPFP).
(Focuses on maternal nutrition/IFA supplementation, personal hygiene, promoting 6 months exclusive breastfeeding, advising on post-partum contraception options, and awareness of emergency danger signs).
