Standard E17: The facility has established procedure for intranatal care as per guidelines
This standard shall be applicable only to Type B sub-centre where there will be availability of intranatal services.
HWC (SC) shall be assessed for availability and compliance to established procedures and standard protocols for management of different stages of labour including AMTSL (Active Management of third stage of labour), routine care of new-born immediately after birth & newborn resuscitation and procedure for management/referral of Obstetrics
Emergencies as per scope of services.
Measurable Elements
ME E17.1: The facility ensures standard monitoring and management of all stages of labor using the Partograph.
(Focuses on tracking labor progress, recording maternal and fetal vital parameters, plotting partograms, and timely identification of prolonged or obstructed labor).
ME E17.2: The facility ensures Active Management of the Third Stage of Labor (AMTSL) and safe delivery practices to prevent Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH).
(Focuses on administration of uterotonics like Oxytocin/Misoprostol immediately after birth, controlled cord traction, uterine massage, and adherence to infection control protocols).
ME E17.3: The facility provides essential immediate care to the newborn, including resuscitation if required.
(Focuses on immediate drying, delayed cord clamping, skin-to-skin contact, early initiation of breastfeeding within one hour, thermal care, and routine neonatal resuscitation protocols).
ME E17.4: The facility ensures early identification, pre-referral management, and timely referral of obstetric and neonatal emergencies.
(Focuses on initial stabilization, emergency drug administration for conditions like eclampsia or severe PPH, arranging emergency transport, and coordinating referral linkages with higher FRUs).
