Standard E16: The facility has established procedures for Antenatal care as per guidelines
The standard is concerned with adequacy & quality of antenatal care is provided at the facility.
It includes Anc registration, identification of High-Risk pregnancy, management of anaemia and counselling services.
Staff at ANC clinic can be interviewed, and records should be reviewed for maintenance of MCP cards and registration of pregnant women.
For assessing quality and adequacy of ANC check-up, direct observation may be undertaken after obtaining requisite permission.
ANC records can be reviewed to see findings of examination and diagnostic tests are recorded.
The assessment and follow up of Anaemia cases should be reviewed.
Beneficiaries and staff can be interacted for counselling on the nutrition, birth preparedness, family planning, etc.
Measurable Elements
ME E16.1: The facility ensures early registration and comprehensive ANC check-ups for all pregnant women in the catchment area as per protocols.
(Focuses on early registration in 1st trimester, mandatory 4 ANC visits, maintenance and filling of RCH portal / MCP cards, TT/Td immunization, and routine clinical screening).
ME E16.2: The facility ensures screening, identification, line-listing, and tracking of High-Risk Pregnancies (HRP).
(Focuses on identifying high-risk criteria such as hypertension, severe anemia, gestational diabetes, previous C-section, multi-fetal pregnancy, and establishing close monitoring and tracking systems).
ME E16.3: The facility ensures screening, management, and follow-up for anemia in pregnant women as per Anemia Mukt Bharat guidelines.
(Focuses on HB estimation, prophylactic IFA distribution, management of mild/moderate anemia, and timely referral for severe anemia or parenteral iron therapy).
ME E16.4: The facility provides comprehensive counseling on birth preparedness, complication readiness, nutrition, and post-partum family planning.
(Focuses on birth planning, identifying delivery facility, arranging emergency transport, counseling on maternal nutrition, danger signs, breastfeeding, and post-partum contraceptive options).
